In addition to a host of community-based tutoring groups that span the globe, Applied Scholastics Study Technology centres and tutors in the United States provide after-school tutoring in 12 states under the Supplemental Education Services (SES) Programme. In just one year, Applied Scholastics SES tutors delivered over 8,500 tutoring hours in 50 schools across 36 school districts, and the programme has steadily expanded since its launch.
The Applied Scholastics Achievement Programme (ASAP) is a comprehensive academic acceleration programme that turns underperformers into achievers. It uses the tools of Study Technology in an integrated approach that identifies a student’s skill level and advances him or her from that point.
The Hollywood Education and Literacy Project (H.E.L.P.) started in 1997 with a single centre in Hollywood, California, and has grown to a worldwide network. Tutors are trained extensively in the use of Study Technology, and the H.E.L.P. lineup of study is precisely laid out to take students of any age and level of English proficiency to higher levels of learning.
In recognition of its successful mentoring and tutoring programmes, H.E.L.P.’s Hollywood centre has received funding from the State of California’s Youth Mentoring Initiative, which has enabled it to provide services to community youth and adults at no charge.
Volunteers serve a wide range of needs in the mentoring and tutoring centres. Students are assisted with their homework, illiterate adults are taught to read and school dropouts may earn a diploma.
Applied Scholastics tutors have also actively and successfully taught English as a second language to thousands of learners throughout the world for the past 15 years. In towns and cities across the United States, Europe and Asia, Applied Scholastics ESL programmes have been implemented in community centres, churches, workplaces, institutions of higher learning and teacher training programmes in particular.
